2027: Sowore Vows To Restore Fuel Subsidy, Redirect Funds Allegedly Taken Abroad By Governors
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential hopeful, Omoyele Sowore, has unveiled part of his plan for the 2027 general election, promising to bring back fuel subsidy if elected president.

Speaking in an interview on the Morayo Show, Sowore said his administration would tackle what he described as capital flight by political office holders.

According to him, funds allegedly converted to dollars and moved abroad by some state governors would be recovered and channeled back to Nigerians.
“The immediate things I will do is to restore subsidy. I will take the money from the governors, who change them to dollars and take them to Dubai every month and put it in your pocket,” Sowore said.
He further alleged that many senators operate Bureau de Change (BDC) businesses, which he claimed they use as private banks to facilitate capital flight.
“There’s virtually no senator in Nigeria that doesn’t have what they call BDC. That’s their private bank. That’s where they change money whenever money is available, and there’s capital flight. That’s why the rest of you are poor,” he said.
When asked if he believes he can win the 2027 presidential election, Sowore expressed confidence, saying Nigerians need to choose competence over sentiment.
“Yes, I can say so. The strategy is you. You have to decide this time around that you want to choose the best. And I’m here to present myself to you as the best that can solve your problems.”
The activist-turned-politician also took a swipe at former governors aspiring to the presidency, arguing that they failed to transform their states during their eight years in office.
“Nobody can convince me to support anybody who was a former governor before. You spent eight years as governor, you didn’t turn your state to Dubai, and you want to come and tell me you want to turn Nigeria to Dubai in four years. It’s a lie.”
On education, Sowore criticized the establishment of private universities by political leaders while public universities suffer prolonged strikes. He also questioned the digital competence of some of the country’s leaders.
“I have an app that explains everything I want to do. Most of them don’t even know how to use cell phones. You are having an analog leadership leading a digital generation, and you want progress?”
Addressing speculations about a coalition of opposition parties ahead of 2027, Sowore ruled out any alliance with major political figures.
“We are not divided because I have never been on their side. We have ideological differences. Since 2019 that I’ve been running, I’ve never been in any coalition with Atiku, Obi, or Tinubu. Never.”
His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the feasibility of his proposals.
