Barcelona Reignite Interest in Victor Osimhen

Barcelona have turned attention back to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen after their move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez stalled, according to a report by Todomercatoweb.

The Spanish giants now see the Galatasaray striker as a priority target and are expected to make a move before the window closes.

TeamTalk also reports that Barcelona sporting director Deco has intensified the club’s pursuit of the Nigerian, who was already on the club’s shortlist during the summer as a backup option.

Osimhen is viewed as a more attainable option than Alvarez for a Barca side still searching for attacking reinforcements.

The 27-year-old has started the new season in fine form, scoring four goals in Galatasaray’s opening two Super Lig games — a brace to rescue a point against newly promoted Corum FK and another two goals plus an assist in a 4-0 win over Erzurumspor.

That run has stretched his streak of direct goal contributions in the league to 15 consecutive matches, with 15 goals and six assists.

Osimhen finished the 2024/25 season as the Super Lig top scorer with 26 league goals in 37 appearances in all competitions, helping Galatasaray to a domestic double. His form since joining permanently from Napoli in a club-record €75m deal has kept him on the radar of top European clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham.

Galatasaray have maintained they do not want to sell, though that stance is reportedly under growing pressure as interest mounts.

Barcelona’s management are said to be working actively to sign a new striker before the transfer deadline.
