Bayelsa APC Will Survive Sylva’s Exit – Nabena

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, says the resignation of former Bayelsa Governor and ex-Minister of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, will not affect the party’s chances in Bayelsa State.

Sylva had recently quit the ruling party, claiming the APC has derailed from its founding ideals.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Nabena insisted that the APC in Bayelsa remains strong, united and formidable ahead of future elections.

According to him, the party structure and majority of stakeholders in the state have resolved to stay in the APC, work for the success of the party, and deliver President Bola Tinubu and all other APC candidates in the coming elections.

While wishing Sylva well in his future political endeavours, Nabena said the Bayelsa APC has grown into an institution that is bigger than any single individual.

Speaking on behalf of 90 percent of party members and stakeholders in the state, he said:

“My Dear Leader, His Excellency Chief Timipre Sylva, we received with deep reflection the news of your resignation from the APC via your letter dated August 31, 2026. As one who joined others to build the APC with sweat and resources, your decision after wide consultation is a painful but principled one.”

Nabena said he respects Sylva’s courage for taking the decision, but noted that most members have chosen to remain where they have invested and built structure over the years.

“We will work hard to deliver all our candidates – from Mr. President’s re-election bid in 2027, to all other candidates. We cannot abandon our people in the APC and jump ship. The problem facing the country is not about political parties but leadership,” he stated.

He added that politicians are not manufactured but recycled, and assured that the party in Bayelsa will stay focused on victory in 2027.

Nabena also thanked Sylva for his leadership and contributions to the growth of the party in the state, noting that beyond politics, he remains a leader to many in Bayelsa.
