D’Tigress Bow Out of Women’s World Cup Winless After 111-56 Thrashing by France
Nigeria’s D’Tigress ended their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign on a disappointing note after suffering a heavy 111-56 defeat to France in their final Group B game in Berlin on Monday.
The African champions were outplayed from start to finish, trailing 31-13 after the first quarter and 65-26 at half-time. France continued their dominance with a 30-13 third quarter before Nigeria finally drew the final period 17-17.
Grace Efosa-Aguebor top-scored for Nigeria with 15 points, while France were led by Gabby Williams who finished with 25 points.
The loss completed a woeful group stage for D’Tigress, who had earlier lost 99-81 to South Korea and 71-67 to Hungary, finishing without a victory.
The team arrived in Berlin as reigning FIBA Women’s AfroBasket champions and just two years after making history by reaching the quarter-finals at Paris 2024, but questions have been raised about preparation after head coach Rena Wakama joined the team only four days before the opening game.
