EPL: Liverpool Boss Iraola Delighted With Club’s Summer Business
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola says he is satisfied with the club’s activity in the summer transfer window and is now focused on delivering results on the pitch.
The Spaniard, who is still searching for his first Premier League win as Reds boss after two consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, said the closure of the window will help the squad focus.
“We need a win, we are frustrated at this part of the job. It’s just the first two games but I want to win,” Iraola told reporters on Thursday ahead of Friday’s trip to promoted Ipswich Town.
“The market has closed – we know who we are. I think we have a lot of talent. Now we have to perform,” he added.
Iraola singled out new arrival Bradley Barcola, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain this week, for praise. He noted the French forward is settling in well, though his lack of pre-season minutes will determine how quickly he is integrated.
The Liverpool boss also confirmed he is happy to have kept Cody Gakpo, whose future was subject to speculation during the window.
On the club’s overall business, Iraola revealed Liverpool turned down several options that did not meet their sporting and economic standards.
“There were other options we decided not to take for different reasons, sometimes sporting or economic, the deal didn’t make sense in the market. But I’m happy now,” he said.
Liverpool, who finished fifth last season after winning the title in 2024/25, have added centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna, and forward Barcola from PSG this summer.
On the injury front, Joe Gomez is expected back in training next week, while Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley remain sidelined for longer.
