Falconets Beat Hosts Poland 1-0 in World Cup Friendly
Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, secured a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in an international friendly played at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg on Friday.
Mary Mamudu was the hero for Nigeria, scoring the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time to give Coach Moses Aduku’s side a crucial win.
The Falconets defended resolutely in the second half to protect their lead and hold on for the narrow win, a result that will boost confidence as they finalize preparations for the global showpiece.
The team, which arrived in Poland earlier this week, will play one more warm-up game against the Republic of Korea at the Remes Resort and Spa Football Stadium on Tuesday, September 1.
Nigeria, who have finished as runners-up twice in the history of the competition, will begin their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign against Spain on Monday, September 7. They will then face China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13 in Group F.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026.
