Trabzonspor Coach Downplays Onuachu Injury Scare
Trabzonspor interim head coach Huseyin Cimsir has calmed fears over Paul Onuachu’s fitness after the Nigerian striker was forced off injured during the club’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Genclerbirligi on Sunday.

Onuachu, 32, was substituted in the 44th minute after sustaining a chin injury following a physical challenge. He was replaced by new signing Franculino Dju.

Speaking after the game in quotes relayed by HaberTS, Cimsir, who recently took over from Fatih Tekke, insisted the injury is not serious.

“I don’t think it’s a very important thing. There is no troubled situation,” Cimsir said.

The scare came just as Onuachu rediscovered his scoring touch. The Super Eagles forward ended a five-game goal drought across all competitions with a brace, opening the scoring inside five minutes and adding a second in the 22nd minute. Mohamed Salah, Ernest Muci and Franculino were also on target as the Turkish Cup holders returned to winning ways.

Trabzonspor will now hope their leading marksman recovers in time for their next Süper Lig fixture against Konyaspor next weekend as they look to build momentum after a slow start to the season.

Onuachu will also be aiming to be fit for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
