Ghana Reappoints Carlos Queiroz As Black Stars Head Coach
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reappointed Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars.

The 73-year-old returns for a second spell after leading Ghana at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, where the team reached the Round of 32 before losing 1-0 to Colombia.

Queiroz had appeared to announce his departure on social media shortly after the defeat, but the GFA confirmed on Thursday that he will continue following internal discussions.

In a statement, the association said it did not disclose the length of his new contract but noted he has been tasked with leading the team into “a successful new phase on the international stage.”

“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter,” the GFA said.

The veteran coach brings a wealth of international experience, having previously managed Iran, Portugal, Egypt, South Africa, Colombia and Qatar, and also served two spells as assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Queiroz’s immediate assignment will be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin later this month. Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.

The GFA added that further details about his mandate will be communicated in due course.
