How Taiwo Hassan Ogogo’s Viral “Breakfast” Quote Inspired Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’
Long before Burna Boy turned heartbreak into a global anthem, veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, had already captured the pain of heartbreak in one unforgettable movie line.

In a scene from one of his classic Yoruba films, Ogogo while advising another character said: “All of us will eat breakfast. It is the time all of us will eat it that differs.”

The line quickly became part of Nigerian pop culture, with “breakfast” becoming the street slang for heartbreak and failed relationships.

Years later, that same metaphor became the foundation for Burna Boy’s 2022 smash hit ‘Last Last’. The Grammy winner opens the song with the now-iconic lyric, “E don cast, last last, na everybody go chop breakfast,” taking the local expression to a worldwide audience.

What started as a line in a Nollywood movie has now lived on through memes, social media banter, and one of Afrobeats’ biggest songs — proving how timeless Ogogo’s words were.

Beyond the viral quote, Ogogo was a true giant of Yoruba cinema. For over four decades, the Ilaro-born actor was celebrated for his commanding presence, deep voice, and powerful interpretations. The Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, described him as a mentor and a pillar of the industry.

The veteran actor passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. His family had made his illness public just days before his death to seek medical support.

His passing has thrown Nollywood into mourning, with veterans like Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya among those who paid their last respects at his final rites in Ilaro, Ogun State.
