Junior Female Yellow Greens Cruise Into Semi-Finals Contention at U-19 World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens are on the brink of the semi-finals at the 2027 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania.

The Nigerian girls made it two wins from two with a dominant 94-run win over Malawi on Monday, after their opening 4-wicket victory against Uganda.

Sent in to bat after Malawi won the toss, Nigeria posted a strong 152/7 in 20 overs. Shola Adekunle top-scored with 32 off 27 balls (5 fours), while Omosigho Eguakun (26 off 19) and Beauty Oguai (26 off 28) provided solid support. Captain Christabel Chukwuonye chipped in with a quick-fire 20 off 12 balls.

Nigeria’s bowlers were ruthless in the chase. The team bowled Malawi out for just 58 in 18.3 overs.

Jennifer Godwin was devastating with 4 wickets for just 5 runs in 2.3 overs, while Adekunle capped an all-round Player of the Match display with 2 wickets for 4 runs in 4 overs, including a maiden. Anointed Akhigbe also claimed 2/10.

Malawi’s Sphiwe Frank (24) and Shavon Akileni (14) were the only batters to reach double figures.

With the victory, Nigeria now tops Group A with 4 points and a Net Run Rate of 3.467, ahead of their final group game against hosts Tanzania on Wednesday. They will face a qualifier from Group B – Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda and Zimbabwe – in the semi-finals.

The overall winner of the qualifier will join South Africa as Africa’s representative at the 2027 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
