LA LIGA: Rodri Apologises After Criticism Over Valencia Remark
Barcelona midfielder Rodri has publicly apologised to Valencia after comments he made about the club were caught on camera and went viral.

Rodri was filmed by Spanish broadcaster Movistar+ chatting on the bench with teammate Pau Cubarsi during Barcelona’s 5-0 thrashing of Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday. He was quoted as saying: “They’re really weak. They’re really weak, man. Really weak, mate.” [Valencia]

The remarks sparked huge backlash from Valencia fans. Barcelona had dominated the game, with Rodri starting before being taken off in the 62nd minute when Barca were already 3-0 up.

Following the criticism, Rodri moved to make amends. According to Spanish reports, he personally contacted Valencia captain José Luis Gayà to explain and apologise.

He then issued a public apology after Barcelona’s 5-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord on Tuesday:
“I want to apologise to the fans and players of Valencia. I also called Valencia’s captain, Gaya. A human, when they make a mistake, must apologise. I hope Valencia returns to where they belong.”
Rodri added that it was a private conversation that was taken out of context, but said he meant no disrespect.

Valencia are currently bottom of La Liga after losing three and drawing one of their opening four games.
