Ronaldo Factor Drew Me To Al Nassr – Postecoglou
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou says the chance to coach Cristiano Ronaldo was a major reason he accepted the job at Saudi Pro League champions Al Nassr.

The 60-year-old Australian was appointed in July on a two-year deal, replacing Jorge Jesus. He inherits a star-studded squad that includes Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix.

Speaking on the LiSTNR podcast The Howie Games, Postecoglou said being part of Ronaldo’s journey appealed to him personally.
“When I reflect on my career, what stands out for me is that I’ve been unbelievably blessed in being part of other people’s journeys,” Postecoglou said. “There’s no doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo’s here, you kind of go, I can become a small part of his story as well.”
He compared it to being coached by Ferenc Puskas as a player and managing greats like Tim Cahill and Son Heung-min.

Postecoglou added that Ronaldo is “still very motivated” and chasing his 1000 career goals.

He said he turned down approaches from double-digit clubs after his sack at Nottingham Forest to move to Saudi Arabia, dismissing claims it was a backward step.

Al Nassr announced his arrival as “A new chapter” and confirmed the two-year contract on Friday.

Postecoglou has made an unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season and was named Saudi Pro League Manager of the Month for August.
