Lady Accuses GTBank of Withholding Late Mother’s Funds for Over a Year Despite Submitting Documents

A Nigerian lady has publicly called out Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over the alleged delay in releasing funds belonging to her late mother.

The complainant, in a post that has now gone viral on social media, claimed that she has been trying to gain access to her deceased mother’s account for more than one year.

According to her, she has submitted all the required documents requested by the bank to process the claim, but is yet to receive the funds.

Her story was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @General_Somto, where she lamented the prolonged delay, sparking mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While some users questioned if she is the legal next-of-kin to the account, others advised her to escalate the matter to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

As of the time of filing this report, GTBank has not released an official statement regarding the allegation.
