NDLEA Arrests 68 Suspects, Seizes Over 7,500kg of Illicit Drugs in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has arrested 68 suspected drug traffickers and seized 7,531.51kg of illicit substances in August 2026.

The Edo State Commander, Commander of Narcotics, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this while presenting the command’s monthly scorecard, saying the feat underscores the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the state.

According to him, the 68 suspects comprise 34 males and 34 females, showing that drug trafficking cuts across gender.

He said a total of 7,531.51kg of drugs was removed from circulation, dealing a significant blow to drug networks in the state.

Breakdown of the seizures shows 7,524.83kg of Cannabis sativa, including 1,098.177kg recovered during operations and 6,433.33kg destroyed on farms, plus 5.3311kg of psychotropic substances, 0.0668kg of methamphetamine and 34.8 litres of codeine syrup.

In a renewed crackdown on cultivation, operatives destroyed four cannabis farms covering 2.573331 hectares with an estimated yield of 6,433.33kg:
• Igbanke Forest, Orhionmwon LGA – 0.699702 hectares (1,749.255kg) • Igbanke Forest, Orhionmwon LGA – 1.15188 hectares (2,879.7kg) • Ukaro Forest, Owan West LGA – 0.496383 hectares (1,240.9575kg) • Ewe Forest, Owan West LGA – 0.225366 hectares (563.415kg)
The Command said no conviction was secured in August as the Federal High Court was on vacation, but three new cases were filed while 87 cases are pending.

Beyond enforcement, the command counselled 23 clients and enrolled 12 persons in vocational training in tailoring, perfume and liquid soap making, while five sensitisation programmes were held for over 2,150 participants across the state.
