Nigerian Lady Questions Why She Must Return to Village for Traditional Wedding After Getting No Support
A Nigerian lady has sparked a conversation online after questioning a long-standing tradition that requires brides to return to their village for their traditional wedding.
In a viral post, the lady lamented that not a single person from her village contributed to her upbringing or education, yet culture demands she goes back to the same community to celebrate her marriage.
She said:
“I can’t believe that no single person has contributed anything to taking care of me or my family from my village. No single person has contributed to my education but when I’m getting married I have to go down to those people and go and do wedding for them.”
Her statement has divided opinions on social media. While some users insisted that traditional weddings are a vital part of culture that must be respected regardless of support, others argued that individuals should have the freedom to choose where and how they want to get married, including opting for a court wedding or a small ceremony.
