Nollywood Veterans Storm Ilaro for Ogogo’s Burial
Tears flowed in Ilaro, Ogun State, as Nollywood veterans gathered to pay their final respects to late Yoruba film icon, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The actor, who died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage four cancer, was laid to rest on Monday in his hometown. Videos from the burial showed an emotional moment as his longtime friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, broke down in tears as Ogogo’s remains were carried for the burial rites.

Quadri, who shared a decades-long brotherhood with Ogogo in the Yoruba film industry, was joined by other industry legends including Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Dele Odule, Olaiya Igwe, Mr Latin, and Fathia Balogun, who all came to bid him farewell.

Ogogo’s death comes just days after his daughter, Taiwo, had made a public appeal on August 18 for urgent medical help, revealing that her father was battling stage four cancer, had been rejected by hospitals, and was declared unfit to fly to India for treatment despite securing a visa.

A respected actor, filmmaker and theatre practitioner, Ogogo was celebrated for his immense contributions to Yoruba-language cinema over several decades.
