Osun Gov Poll: AAGG Commends INEC, Says Credible Exercise Strengthens Democracy
The Action for Accountability and Good Governance (AAGG) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the peaceful and credible conduct of the Osun State governorship election.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by its National President, Prince Peter Bassey Asuquo, the group said the poll, conducted under the leadership of INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, showed marked improvement in logistics, personnel deployment, use of technology and transparency.

AAGG noted that the peaceful atmosphere during the exercise and the transparent collation of results have boosted public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The group praised INEC officials for their professionalism before, during and after the election, adding that early accreditation of voters, strict adherence to electoral guidelines and effective collaboration with security agencies ensured a smooth exercise.

“AAGG particularly notes the efforts of the Commission to ensure inclusivity, with provisions for persons with disabilities, women and the elderly at polling units. This reflects a growing institutional maturity that should be sustained and improved upon in future elections,” the statement said.

The organisation urged INEC to build on the Osun success ahead of future off-cycle and general elections, while calling on political parties, candidates and citizens to maintain peace, respect the rule of law and support the Commission in delivering its constitutional mandate.

AAGG also congratulated Prof. Amupitan, the National Commissioners, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner and all staff of the Commission for a job well done, stressing that credible elections remain critical to the growth and stability of Nigeria’s democracy
