Peter Obi Pledges To Tackle Northern Poverty, Says Region Will Celebrate His Presidency
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential hopeful, Mr. Peter Obi, has vowed to prioritize poverty eradication in Northern Nigeria if elected president.

Obi said he has a clear understanding of the challenges facing the North and is determined to confront them head-on through deliberate, targeted policies.

According to him, the North’s greatest economic strength lies in agriculture, a sector he believes has been underutilized. He argued that harnessing this potential is key to lifting millions out of poverty and improving livelihoods in the region.

Speaking in a trending video, Obi said:
“If there is one president that the North will celebrate, it is me. I know its problems and will deal with the issue of poverty like never before. The North has an asset that no other area can say they have, and that asset is agriculture. The poverty in the North wasn’t worsening because of the removal of subsidy; there are other things.”
His remarks come amid renewed national conversations about rising poverty, economic hardship, and the impact of fuel subsidy removal, especially on vulnerable communities in Northern Nigeria.
