PSG Lead UCL Table After Record 69-Goal Opening Round
Holders Paris Saint-Germain have gone top of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League table after a high-scoring Matchday 1 that produced 69 goals across 18 matches.

PSG started their title defence with a 6-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava to sit first on goal difference. Bayern Munich are second after an identical +5 goal difference from their 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt.

Barcelona and Manchester United complete the top four after 5-1 and 4-0 wins over Feyenoord and Sabah respectively.

In total, 16 of the 36 clubs started with victories, while Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Fenerbahce and PSV Eindhoven are the only four clubs on one point after the only two draws of the round. The remaining 18 clubs are still searching for their first points.

The round averaged 3.83 goals per game, making it the joint-highest scoring Matchday 1 in Champions League history and the second-highest scoring matchday overall, behind the 71 goals recorded on Matchday 3 last season.

Biggest talking points:

– PSG and Bayern set the pace: Ferran Torres hit a hat-trick for PSG in the biggest win of the round.

– Como stun Leipzig: Italian newcomers Como, playing in the league phase for the first time, beat RB Leipzig 4-1 to climb to fifth, above Sporting, Stuttgart and Manchester City.

– Tight table: Aston Villa, Lens and Real Betis all won 3-2 to sit 9th, 10th and 11th. Real Madrid (14th), Arsenal (15th) and Liverpool (13th) all won but sit outside the top 10 due to narrow margins.

At the bottom, Bodø/Glimt are 36th after their heavy defeat to Bayern.

Matchday 2 is scheduled for October 13 and 14, with headline fixtures including Manchester City vs PSG, Roma vs Real Madrid, and Barcelona away at Galatasaray.
