Wike Is Not Your Problem, Wike-backed PDP Faction Replies APC Governors
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has told governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus on governance instead of opposing Wike’s political moves ahead of 2027.

The faction was reacting to a statement by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) on Monday, in which the APC governors said they would not support any alliance or political arrangement that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or APC candidates in 2027.

The PGF’s position comes amid activities of the rainbow coalition, a cross-party alliance backing Tinubu for 2027, with which Wike — a PDP member serving as FCT Minister — has been associated while retaining his PDP membership.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jungudo Mohammed, national publicity secretary of the Wike-backed PDP faction, said the APC governors’ stance showed fear over Wike’s political influence and his ability to support candidates outside the APC in 2027.

Mohammed said Wike’s support for Tinubu does not mean he has abandoned the PDP or handed over his political structure to the APC.

“The APC Governors’ Forum should understand that Wike is not their problem; their problem is their poor governance and failure to meet the expectations of their people,” the statement read.

He added that opposition to Wike was driven by fear that poor performance records would be exposed at the polls, stressing that Wike has the constitutional and democratic right to decide who to support politically.

The faction also said the PDP’s efforts to resolve its internal crisis and field candidates for 2027 have increased competition ahead of the polls, and urged APC governors to concentrate on accountability and performance rather than trying to dictate who Wike supports.
