Davido Fires Back After $50,000 Performance Petition Goes Viral
Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted angrily after a petition and police invitation letter linked to an alleged $50,000 performance dispute surfaced online.
The petition, filed by lawyers representing businessman Muse Ariyoh Bolaji Ariyoh, owner of Loud by Mami Chula nightclub, accuses Davido and Ifeoluwa Babalola, CEO of Srappcode of Africa Nigeria Limited, of Conspiracy, Obtaining Money Under False Pretence, and Criminal Breach of Trust.
According to the document, Ariyoh alleged that around January 2, 2026, Babalola approached him claiming he had the capacity and connections to secure Davido’s performance for the grand opening of Loud by Mami Chula. Babalola was reportedly engaged to procure Davido’s appearance, handle publicity, billboard advertising, and coordinate other artistes for the event.
The petition partly reads: “Relying on the foregoing representations, our client paid the total sum of Fifty Thousand United States Dollars (USD 50,000.00) to Mr. Ifeoluwa Babalola for the execution of the said engagement.”
Following this, a letter of invitation from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos was issued, stating that the police were investigating the case and required clarification from Davido as part of a fact-finding mission at the FCID Annex in Ikoyi.
Davido addressed the issue during a live stream with content creators Carter Efe and Kolu, where he lashed out at the petitioner.
“Shebi you want to be popular; you are a bastard. I will make you popular, you useless man. Can you pay me?” Davido said during the livestream.
As of press time, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the other parties named have issued an official public statement on the matter.
