Arsenal Close to Sealing New Long-Term Deal for Mikel Arteta
Arsenal are set to extend manager Mikel Arteta’s stay at the Emirates, with talks over a new long-term contract at an advanced stage.
According to BBC Sport, the club is increasingly confident of reaching an agreement, despite the Spaniard’s current deal having just nine months left to run.
Arteta himself has made his commitment clear, stating there is no doubt about his future in North London.
“Everybody feels comfortable that the timing of the contract is not going to be an issue because my will certainly is to be here and I’m very happy here,” Arteta said. “My feeling from the club is the same one. That’s why everyone is doing things in a very organic way.”
Arsenal Chief Executive Richard Garlick has also eased fears over the delay, describing the new contract as a “matter of time”.
Once signed, the deal is expected to make Arteta one of the highest-paid managers in world football. The Gunners are set to significantly improve his current £10m-per-year package, which includes an additional £5m bonus for Champions League qualification.
Since his appointment in December 2019, Arteta has transformed Arsenal into title contenders and has become central to the club’s recruitment and long-term football strategy. His influence was evident in the summer signings of Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa, backed fully by the club’s ownership.
