Doctor Warns Nigerian Men: Many Will Face Loneliness in Old Age, Learn to Care for Yourself Now
A Nigerian doctor has issued a stern warning to men, urging them to prepare for the possibility of living alone in old age — regardless of how good a partner or father they have been.

The doctor, speaking in a viral post, said the next 20 to 30 years could see a lot of men suffer from loneliness and heartbreak in their later years. He specifically advised men in their 20s to 40s to prioritize self-sufficiency and financial stability.
“If you’re a man, prepare to live alone in your later years, whether you’re a good man or not. A whole lot of men in the next 20-30 years are going to die of loneliness and heartbreak in their old age. If you’re in your 20s to 40s, ensure you retain the ability to take care of yourself. Learn how to get your own food, do your laundry, take care of yourself and, most importantly, make money,” the doctor said.
The statement has sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some users dismissed the warning, others agreed, noting that children are not social security and that men should focus on purpose, peace, and financial independence.

Some reactions included:
@PrisciliaAmadi: “Ahn Ahn! I thought they said it’s only unmarried women who will live and die alone.”
@RealOkonkwo: “This is fact. Prepare for your old age as a man. Your children are not social security.”
@Foxyblueu: “Focus on your purpose and protect your peace. The streets won’t offer you companionship when you are old and broke.”

The doctor’s message highlights a growing conversation about men’s mental health, aging, and the importance of building life skills beyond marriage.
