Governor Yusuf Officiates Mass Wedding of 1,500 Couples in Kano
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday presided over the mass wedding of 1,500 couples comprising widows and young women in the state.
The ceremony, organized under the Kano State Government’s Mass Wedding Programme and coordinated by the Kano State Hisbah Board, was described by the Governor as a major social intervention designed to restore hope, strengthen family values and uphold morality.
According to Governor Yusuf, the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, reducing the financial burden of marriage, and promoting decent family life in line with Islamic teachings and Kano’s cultural heritage.
During the solemnization, Governor Yusuf stood in as representative for the first groom, formally seeking the bride’s hand in marriage from her guardian, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, who gave his consent in accordance with Islamic rites.
In his Friday sermon before the wedding, the Emir of Kano urged the newlyweds to build their marriages on faith, patience, mutual respect and compassion, noting that peaceful homes are the bedrock of a stable and prosperous society.
The Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed that all beneficiaries were properly screened and counselled, and that all religious and legal conditions for marriage were met.
The Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddeen, offered special prayers for divine guidance, blessings and harmony in the new homes.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked Governor Yusuf for the gesture, describing it as life-changing and one that has given them a fresh start with dignity and hope.
The programme is part of the state government’s wider social welfare drive aimed at strengthening the family institution and promoting peace and unity in the state.
