166 Players From 27 Countries Battle For Honours At 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics
The 9th edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classics served off on Wednesday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), National Stadium, Lagos.

No fewer than 166 shuttlers from 27 countries are competing for top honours at the five-day tournament, which will run until August 29.

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, said the federation is fully prepared to host a world-class event, noting that the huge turnout of foreign players is a big boost for the Classics.

According to him, the competition comes with a total prize money of $20,000, which shows its importance on the Badminton World Federation calendar.

Orbih said: “The $20,000 prize money demonstrates the level of importance attached to this competition. We want the players to have every motivation to give their best and put on a great performance.”

He also thanked the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Phillip Shuaibu and his management team for releasing the venue and supporting the federation’s preparations.

He assured that the BFN is committed to delivering a well-organized championship that will further project Nigeria as a top destination for international badminton tournaments.
