American Golf Brand Fires CEO, President Over Controversial Advert
American golf lifestyle brand Good Good Golf has dismissed its Chief Executive Officer and President following public backlash over a controversial advertisement.
The company confirmed it has parted ways with CEO Matt Kendrick and President Joe Flannery after the release of the advert, which was produced for golf equipment manufacturer Callaway.
Vice-President of Brand and Marketing, Jeffrey Lefkovits, was also dismissed earlier in the week.
The advert featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark rushing towards professional golfer and Good Good content creator Alexis Miestowski and pushing her to the ground after she reached for a golf club, before shouting, “Do not touch my new driver.”
The video triggered widespread criticism online, with viewers accusing the brand of trivializing violence against women.
Both Good Good and Callaway have since taken down the advert and issued public apologies.
Callaway announced it has ended its partnership with Good Good and will donate $1 million to organizations working to prevent violence against women and support victims.
In the fallout, Good Good — which has about 2.1 million subscribers on YouTube — has withdrawn from sponsoring a PGA Tour event scheduled for November in Austin, Texas. Several retailers have also reportedly pulled Good Good products from their shelves.
Board member and investor Nahid Giga has been appointed as interim Chief Executive.
Head of Finance and Operations, Alex Puchala, described the departures as a “difficult day for the entire Good Good family,” adding that the company remains focused on moving forward.
Good Good launched its YouTube channel in 2020 and has grown into one of the biggest golf content brands in the world, producing challenge videos, TV shows, adverts and merchandise.
