Tyson Fury Confirms Anthony Joshua Showdown at Madison Square Garden
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed his highly anticipated all-British clash with Anthony Joshua will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Fury made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a fight poster of himself and Joshua with the New York City skyline in the background. No official fight date was included in the post.

“What a place NYC, and what a venue MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, the land of opportunity,” Fury wrote.

“What a weekend away for the lads on the piss in NYC. Iconic! Not long now guys.”

As of press time, Joshua and his promoters at Matchroom Boxing had not publicly confirmed the venue. Joshua was not tagged in Fury’s post.

The bout is expected to hold in November, with November 20 understood to be the target date, after both fighters reportedly signed contracts with Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

The fight was originally expected to take place in the UK, per Joshua’s initial terms, but organizers Netflix and Alalshikh are said to have pushed for a US venue. This led to fresh negotiations by Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.

“We don’t want to do the fight in the US, but we also understand it has to work for everybody,” Hearn said.

“We’ve set out our position, mainly in concern to the tax situation that will deplete his net purse by going to America, which can be rectified and I think they’re happy to do that.”

The decision to stage the all-British heavyweight battle in America has drawn criticism from fans who had hoped for a Wembley Stadium showdown.

Fury, 38, has won 36 professional fights, with his only defeats coming in back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. He returned to action in July with a stoppage win over Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand. Joshua also won his tune-up bout on July 25 against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah.

Plans for a Fury vs Joshua fight first collapsed in 2021 after a US court ordered Fury to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight.
